Preparing for Laylatul Qadr
1Better than a thousand months
'The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months' (Qur'an 97:3). The Prophet (peace be upon him) is reported to have sought it in the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly the odd ones (Sahih al-Bukhari 2020).
2How to prepare
A practical pattern: increase recitation and dhikr, make du'a, keep the family engaged, and aim to be present in worship at night. A preparation habit — reducing sleep debt beforehand, planning the night, making a du'a list — helps turn intention into actual presence.
3The night's du'a
The Prophet taught 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to say: 'Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni — O Allah, You are Pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3513).
